What should I write about on the topic of being a feminist headbanger? What would you like to have me discuss about metal from a feminist perspective?
I can’t answer in 140 characters, so this’ll have to do!
As much as I admire feminist statements like this on the rather demeaning “Hottest Chick in Metal” role of women in Revolver’s Golden God Awards, I can’t help but feel it advocates a sort of affirmative action that could easily be just as tokenistic, regardless of artistic merit. I’m sure there are fewer women than men in metal bands that deserve such awards not due to any lack of ability, but because of a lesser presence in the genre… would love to hear your thoughts on the root cause - why that is, and what, if anything, can be done to equalise the state of metal. If that’s even the point.
