If you’d be an artist and you could either have an album that gets great reviews from critics but doesn’t do to well commercially, or one major (Umbrella/Poker Face proportions) ‘hit of the year’, which one would you pick?
Great question - and I do plan on being an artist! :P
Funny thing is, up until this time last year, I’d have gone for the former (in PJ terms, the Siobhan) without question… But now, through Madonna, I see that it’s possible to achieve both - which means I’d want both!
I guess the aim is mainly to affect people deeply - the more the better, but I’d take relative obscurity over a massive single that’s soon forgotten. And maybe even over a song as great as Umbrella; being something of a metalhead, I’m used to people having no clue about certain bands I like!
